William “Bill” Watkins, 90, life-long resident of Blossburg, passed away November 25, 2013 at Broad Acers, Wellsboro.
Bill graduated from Mansfield University in January 1951. He immediately became a teacher in Charleston High School where he taught English, history and physical education. He also coached baseball and basketball.
Following receiving a degree in Library Science from Kutztown, he became the librarian in Wellsboro High School until he retired in 1983. He also coached the golf team.
Speaking of golf, Bill always remembered parring the golf course in Corey Creek. He had to birdie the 18th hole to do it and he did. He was 68 when he finally parred it.
Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blossburg, Kiwanis Club, American Legion, V.F.W, Rod and Gun Club, Hamilton Club and Wheel Inn. He was also a member of the Library Club and Fireman’s and Ambulance Association.
He served with the U.S. Marines in WWll with several months in the Pacific.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Mary C. Watkins on February 4, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Rena Watkins.
He is survived by sisters-in-law Margaret Horton, Mansfield and Margaret Collins, Galeton, also by several nieces and nephews in Williamsport and Galeton.
It was Bill’s desire to have no viewing; he said “Remember me as I was”.
A committal service will be held Friday November 29, 2013, at 2p.m. at St. Andrews Cemetery, Blossburg, with Rev. John Shypulefski officiating.
