Wilbert "Pete" Cleveland

Wilbert “Pete” Cleveland , age 96, of Wellsboro, formerly of Covington, was welcomed into Jesus’ arms on July 4th 2026, at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Wellsboro.   He shared 73 years of marriage with his loving wife, Marcile Cleveland, who preceded him in death in January.  Born April 9, 1930, son of the late Sanford and Doris (Brockway) Cleveland.  

Pete, as everyone knew him, served in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division, from 1949 to 1952, honorably discharged as a Sargeant.  He began his work life as a farmer, also drove truck and ran equipment until he then started with US Postal Service as a rural carrier until he retired as a Postmaster at the Covington Post Office.  He and his wife had a vegetable and fruit stand for many years in Covington.  He enjoyed gardening.  He had a very strong faith in our Lord.  He was a Deacon at several churches.  He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Tioga, PA.  He had been on numerous mission trips, including Africa, Equador and South America.  He enjoyed puzzles, socializing and spending time with friends and family.  He was active and outgoing right up to the end of his incredible, long life.  He was humorous and loved to laugh.  

Left to cherish his memory are son and daughter-in-law, David & Kim Cleveland of Millville, PA.   Grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathan, Joel (Danielle), Timothy and Shannon Harmon of South Carolina and Texas.  Stevie (Joel) Gregory and Shane Cleveland.  Three great grandchildren.   Endeared family friends, Don and Lori Rice and their children.  And many, many dear friends.  

In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his beloved children, Gary Cleveland in 2014 and Susan Harmon in 2017 and his brother, Grover in March.  

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, July 9, 2026.  Visitation beginning at 10 am to 11 am with funeral to follow at Freeberg Funeral Home at 120 North Williamson Rd Blossburg, PA  16912 with Pastor Steven Neff officiating.  Graveside services will be held immediately following with Pastor Don Rice helping to lay our beloved Pete to rest at Gray Cemetery in Covington.
