Wesley Jay Bloom, 89, of 201 S. Broad St., Apt 30, Jersey Shore, passed away on Feb. 23, 2015.
He was born Jan. 23, 1926, and graduated from Williamsport High School in 1943. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II on a mine sweeper called U.S.S. Device. Jay was the son of Merrill and E. Ruth Campbell Bloom. He married Vivian Harding and shared 62 years together before she passed away March 21, 2009. He was a member of South Williamsport United Methodist Church.
Jay loved to camp, fish, hunt and had a passion to create earrings for the ladies and give them away.
He is survived by his sons, Dennis (Karen) Bloom, of Liberty and Gary (Patricia) Bloom, of Okeechobee, Fla.; and his daughter, Cindy (Gary) Kimble, of Jersey Shore. He will also be missed by his four grandchildren, Kerri (Ed) Frick, Stephanie Sylvester (Anthony Przychodzien), Jaymi (Jeff) Porter and Jarred (Teresa) Kimble; and twelve great-grandchildren. Jay will also be missed by his girlfriend, Lorraine Brown, who has been his camping and fishing companion. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Jack Bloom, in 1990. In keeping with Jayás wishes, there will not be a viewing. A graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in Montoursville Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. March 21, at Freidens Lutheran Church, Brick Church Road, Liberty, by Pastor Mark Brumbach. Jay was a self-employed plumbing and heating contractor. He was an explorer scout leader and had a great impact in teaching his family and young men to canoe, fish, hunt and enjoy the great outdoors.
Jay lived life to the fullest and was an example to follow. He will be missed by all.
