Mertella I. Smith 95, of Morris Run, passed away Thursday, July 31 at Broad Acres in Wellsboro. Born in Blossburg on August 19, 1929 , the daughter of Eric and Gerda Wickman Isaacson.
She was predeceased by her husbands Harold Machmer and Thomas Smith.
She was a member of the Siloa Lutheran Church in Morris Run where she was a Sunday School and Catechism teacher, a member of the Luther League and the Ladies Aid. Her other memberships include The Red Hats, and Business and Professional Women.
When Mert was a young girl, she would often go to the neighbors to cut their hair, she went on to become a professional barber. She had several other jobs which include, tax collector of Hamilton Township, sold Avon, and had a chicken farm. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
Survivors include her children; Patricia Makley, Cynthia (John) Green, Anne Smith Wagner, and Timothy (Roxy) Smith, grandchildren; Sherry Makley, Larry Makley, Raymond Green, William Green, and Andreas Wagner, Great-grandchildren; Dylan Earl, Ryan Earl, Madison Earl, Christopher (Rachel) Makley, Logan Makley, Nathan Makley, Owen Wagner, Alexes Green, Emerson Green, Everleigh Green, and Wyatt Green. Great-great-grandchildren; Brinley Makley and Adalynn Makley’
She was predeceased by sisters; Viola Bombaski, Joan McDougal and Faye Davies.
Family and friends will be received at Freeberg Funeral Home, Blossburg, Friday August 8th from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday August 9th from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Sandra Olson. Interment will take place in Arbon Cemetery, Blossburg.
