Melanie Hurley Obituary

Melanie Anne Hurley, 70 passed away at her residency at Broad Acres Nursing Home in Wellsboro, PA on March 18, 2026.  Melanie was born on November 21, 1955 in Scranton, PA and was the daughter of the late William and Doris Hurley of Blossburg.  She was a retired special education teacher of Wellsboro Area School District.  Melanie was a devoted mother to her three children, two grandchildren and son-in-law.  She loved talking with them on the phone and spending time watching her grandchildren play on the playground.  She showed great interest in their lives and always shared how much she loved them.  Melanie’s favorite past times included watching her children participate in extracurricular activities and building relationships with friends of her children, often in the role of a second mother to many.  She enjoyed keeping in touch with her high school friends and reminiscing about cherished times while raising her family.  Mel loved camping at Hills Creek State Park and spending time with her extended family and her parents prior to their deaths.  Her family will deeply miss her sense of humor and teasing her about her conversations with those she met along the way; always referring to life as it is what it is.

Melanie is survived by her children; Elliot Colegrove of Blossburg, Eric Colegrove of Mansfield, and Emily (Matthew) Nauman of Frederick, MD, as well as her grandchildren Quinn and Cooper Nauman of Frederick, MD.  She is survived by her sister Dr. Margaret Hurley (Dr. Andrew Black) of Spencer, NY as well as nephews Parker Hurley-Rioux of Spencer, NY and Wyndham Hurley-Rioux (Kelly Schmid) of Pinellas Park, FL and niece Taylor Hurley-Rioux (Steven DaCosta) of Lawrence, NJ.  Additionally, she is survived by lifelong friends Barbara Kelly of Blossburg, Kathy Largey of Wellsboro, Karen and Steve Strange of Mansfield, Kathy Trump of State College, PA, and Stephanie Heaps of Oklahoma City, OK.

Melanie’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Broad Acres Nursing Home for their care, patience and dedication throughout her residency.
