Mary Ellen Yankowy

Mary Ellen Wilson Yankowy, age 77, of Blossburg, died peacefully in her sleep on             June 23, 2025.  Mary Ellen was born on August 6, 1947, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Eleanor (Rose) and Thomas Wilson.  Mary Ellen was married to Thomas Paul Yankowy for 50 years.  They raised their family in College Park, MD before moving to Blossburg in the summer of 2022.  Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, Thomas Yankowy of Blossburg, PA; children, Scott (Leslie) Yankowy of Odenton, MD, Shannon Yankowy, Amanda Yankowy (Joseph) Stitz, and William Yankowy of Blossburg; grandsons, Joseph Stitz, Michael Yankowy, Jacob Stitz, Alex Stitz; sibling, Robert (Joan) Wilson of Edgewater, MD.  Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her granddaughters, Abigail and Elaina Yankowy.

Mary Ellen worked 18 years as an administrative assistant at St. Mark’s Elementary School in Hyattsville, MD.  She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, and music.  Mary Ellen loved her family very much.  She devoted her life to her children and grandsons.  Mary Ellen made friends wherever she went. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and caring spirit.  Mary Ellen was known for making the best Christmas cookies and her uncanny ability to sing any song on demand.  She will be truly missed.

A funeral service to honor Mary Ellen’s life will be held on Monday, June 30th at      1:00 p.m. at Freeberg Funeral Home, North Williamson Rd., Blossburg.  A viewing will be held prior from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday with burial afterwards at Arbon Cemetery.
