Martha Louise (Roller) Hummel went home to be with her Lord on December 17th , 2022 at her home in Cogan Station. Martha was a native of South Williamsport, born on August 15, 1935, to the late Clarence and Mabel (Ziefle) Roller. She graduated from South Williamsport High School, class of 1953.
She married James W. Hummel on March 3, 1953 and enjoyed 56 years with the love of her life before his passing on September 9, 2012
She was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran and Friedens Lutheran Churches for over 50 years combined, where she served in many capacities, and attended Steam Valley Bible Church for her last three years.
Martha loved being with her family, playing cards with her siblings into their eighties, and visiting the homes of her children and grandchildren, supporting them in all their endeavors. She served with the ladies of Liberty community and enjoyed a weekly Bible study with them as well. She played the piano until the last year of her life when she was no longer able to do so and loved decorating her home for every holiday. To quote a niece, “She left incredible memories with many and will be missed by all who know her.”
Surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Childe (John) of Dauphin, PA and Wanda MacAvoy (Tom) of Cogan Station, PA.; five grandchildren: John Young (Kirsten), Emily Campbell (Jeremy), Tom MacAvoy (Cheyanne), Jennifer Marks (Seth), Nathan MacAvoy (Martha); 12 great-grandchildren; two siblings, her brother, Henry Roller of Williamsport, and sister, Dorothy Ennis of Towanda.
Visitation with the family will be 10:00 a.m. at Friedens Lutheran Church in Liberty, PA with the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Friedens Lutheran Church or Steam Valley Bible Church.
