Florence McNeal Obituary

Florence "Bushie" McNeal

87 of Blossburg, PA died peacefully Saturday evening, December 11th, 2021 at home surrounded by family. Upon passing, she was reunited with her husband of 52 years, Glen E. McNeal who passed 15 years prior. Florence, known by many as Bushie, Mama Flo, or Peewee, was born April 28, 1934 in Nanticoke, PA to John and Rose Lamonski. She married Glen E. McNeal on July 31, 1954. Florence raised six children with Glen as a military spouse, living everywhere from Alabama to New Jersey and Germany.

Peewee was a kind, funny, and gentle soul known for her generosity and welcoming nature. Her home was often full of family and friends, especially during the holidays, and she always had a pot of coffee ready for visitors. Florence was always an active member of the community, from when she worked at the original Victoria Theater with her siblings to being a lifelong member of St. Mary's church in Blossburg. She was known for her excellent cooking skills, especially her famous pierogis, and usually made more than enough to feed the neighborhood. Her polka dancing skills were also something she and her husband Glen were well known for and they even founded a polka association locally in the 70's. After retiring from the foundry, Florence focused on being the loving matriarch of the McNeal family, her home in Blossburg being a gathering place for family for holidays, birthdays, and everyday celebrations.

She is survived by four of her children, Glen Michael McNeal of Blossburg, PA, Rose (Bill) Putnam of Bellefonte, PA, Patrick McNeal of Blossburg, PA, and Katherine McNeal of Wellsboro, PA; two brothers, Raymond Lamonski of Morris Run, PA and John (June) Lamonski of Georgia; 8 grandchildren, Gary, Joe, Mike, Emily, Amanda, Bryan, Alaina, and Lexi and 5 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Myra, Bryson, Josalyn, and Nellie; beloved dog, Peewee; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Glen E. McNeal; eight siblings; two children, Myra Kohler and Robert McNeal; and two grand children, Chris Kohler and Jonathan Smith.

Services for Florence will be held in the spring.
