Carol Baker Obituary

Carol A. Baker, 87, of Covington passed away on August 11, 2022, in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. She was born on November 20, 1934, the daughter of Isidor and Edith (Weinstein) Loss, in New York City. She grew up in Rowayton, Connecticut, and Harmony Township, New Jersey, with her sisters Jane Hertz and Ruth (William) Bartron. She graduated from Phillipsburg (NJ) High School and attended Douglass College (NJ).

Carol married Daniel M. Baker, Sr., and enjoyed 42 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 1997. They shared many memories on their dairy farm in Alexandria Township, New Jersey, as they raised their six children: Roberta (William) Schilling; Donna (David) Cummings; Marty (Bonnie) Baker; John Baker; Bill (Valerie) Baker; and Cynthia Baker-Gaskin.

Carol was beloved by many as she drove school bus and delivered mail in New Jersey; she continued to deliver mail after the family moved their dairy farm to Covington, Pennsylvania, in 1980. She retired as a Rural Mail carrier in 2010 after 35 years, which included being a member of the Rural Carriers Association. She was proud to be inducted into the One Million Mile Club, for attaining a million miles or 30 years of safe driving without a preventable incident.

She was also an active member of the State Road Cemetery Board, Tioga County Cooperative Extension, Tioga County Dairy Princess Committee, and part of the Dairylea Milk Cooperative (for more than 50 years). Visiting and spending time with family, reading, bowling, watching football, and playing the piano were among her passions.

In addition to her sisters and children, Carol is survived by 13 grandchildren: J.D. (Leanne) Baker; Berta (Victor) DeDonato; Krissy (Danny) Pydynowski; Kim (Ben) Heverly; Joe Gaskin (Abigail George); Ariel Gaskin (Nina Pollock-Antos); Ethan Baker; Anita (Paul) Shade; Michael (Jennifer) Schilling; Janina Griffis; Carl Cummings; Rachel Schilling (Jeffrey Lotz); and Mikaileigh Baker. Carol also enjoyed time with her great-grandchildren: Lucy and Cooper Baker; Violet and Rocco DeDonato; Isaac and Elias Shade; and Beau, Andi and Nora Heverly, and her nieces and nephews: David (Diane) Hertz; Jennifer Hertz (Sue Donnelly); Ann (George) Morris; Lynne Bartron (Brett LaDove); Ellen (John) Whirley, along with their children.

In addition to her husband, Carol was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Rebecca Baker, and granddaughter, Morgan Griffis.
